ABOUT MIKE

The Central Valley has been my home since childhood. I grew up in Merced, attending local public schools, and it was my privilege to serve for two terms as the mayor of Merced. During my tenure, we improved public safety readiness and response, created a budget surplus, ensured clean drinking water for all residents, developed safe routes to school for students, increased opportunities for higher education in the Central Valley, and reduced government red tape.

Although I have always kept my hometown roots, I’ve had opportunities and accomplishments in other regions. I put myself through Georgetown Law School and then practiced law in Silicon Valley, representing technology companies in high-stakes business transactions.

I am a senior fellow with the American Leadership Forum, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to join and strengthen diverse leaders to better serve the public good. As a young man, I lived abroad in French Polynesia doing missionary work, where I became fluent in French and Tahitian, serving many who were less fortunate than we were.

In the late 2000s, Heather and I moved our family back home to the valley by choice. We wanted to raise our three children in a family-friendly environment around extended family and good friends. We have since added another child to our family and now have four kids. Our oldest child is wheelchair bound having been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at the age of 4, and is thriving now as a young adult.

I am a business attorney who advises clients on various aspects of business transactions, including incorporation, intellectual property protection, venture capital financings, and mergers.

I love being part of the vibrant local communities in the Central Valley, and I care deeply about our collective success.
